Alterface reinvents laser tag concept for Gears of War at Dubai gamers attraction

Alterface has supplied the interactive laser shooting technology for Gears of War: Laser Siege at Hub Zero in Dubai, combining classic laser tag with a walkthrough environment.

Equipped with a laser gun and jacket, up to 24 players explore the two-level site, themed like the planet Sera, with the aim of shooting opposing team members and virtual Locusts – a mutual enemy.

“We accepted the challenge to innovate the popular laser tag even though nobody had tried it before,” said Alterface CEO Benoit Cornet. “Even more than innovating the laser tag, Hub Zero's request was an opportunity to implement the laser tag gameplay in our interactive walkthrough solutions.”

Gears of War: Laser Siege is an attraction at the indoor entertainment park Hub Zero, which opened this year at a Dubai mall, featuring a variety of dark rides, gaming experiences and 4D theatres based on popular video game IPs.

Alterface created a shooting device that is capable of near-millimetre target precision, creating an authentic experience for players who score points for hitting opponent team members and enemy Locusts.

“Based on Alterface’s patented shooting technology, we can shape any interactive device to match any existing IP,” said Stéphane Battaille, COO at Alterface. “As Gears of War features the famous Locusts’ Snub Pistol, we decided to design an identical replica. The precision of our shooting devices is millimetric, even at longer distances, with a second to none reactivity. Furthermore, our shooting devices allow complete freedom of movements for the players.”
